  • Do not dispose of gas springs with household waste.

Instructions for disposing of old, used gas springs:

Taking into consideration the regulations for preventing accidents and the regulations for environmental protection, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Put on protective clothing and safety glasses.
  2. Properly clamp the cylinder of the gas spring using a vice.
  3. Drill a hole in the cylinder at the point indicated in figure 1 or 2 using a drill of circa 3mm in width to allow the gas to escape. The instructions for each type of gas spring can be found below.

    • Standard gas springs: Open the cylinder as shown in figure 1, about 20 mm from the bottom.
    • Lockable gas springs: Operate the valve stem in the piston rod and fully extend the piston rod. Open the cylinder as shown in figure 2, about 30 mm from the piston rod side and 20 mm from the bottom.

  4. Pump the oil out of the gas spring by sliding the piston rod in and out.
  5. Collect the oil in a container and bring it to a collection point for mineral and synthetic oils.
  6. Gas spring oil is a hydraulic oil. Based on the waste storage regulations, it can be stored with engine and transmission oil.
